Diseño de Procesos Automáticos para Bioensayos de Toxicidad con Microalgas en Microplaca

Abstract

Los bioensayos de toxicidad evalúan los efectos de potenciales contaminantes sobre organismos biológicos para entender el efecto que tendrían en los ecosistemas, permitiendo así la implementación de normativas medioambientales para regular los niveles de estas sustancias en el entorno natural. En concreto, las microalgas son uno de los organismos recomendados para estos estudios, puesto que son muy sensibles ante los contaminantes y constituyen la base de las redes tróficas, siendo un pilar esencial en los ecosistemas acuáticos. Sin embargo, la sensibilidad a estas sustancias puede depender de la especie empleada, con lo que la toxicidad podría ser infravalorada. Por otra parte, aunque las microplacas se emplean cada vez más en estos ensayos, no hay estudios que avalen la validez y fiabilidad de su uso junto con sistemas automáticos de pipeteo. Por ello, en este trabajo se han realizado bioensayos de toxicidad en microplaca mediante automatización en microalgas marinas, con la finalidad de evaluar las diferencias de sensibilidad entre especies y las posibles limitaciones de la automatización y las microplacas en los ensayos de toxicidad.
