This chapter presents the characteristics and peculiarities of socalled "Halal food" and its role as a key element for the development of Halal tourism worldwide. Thus, we proceed to clarify the term "Halal tourism" as a previous step to examining the peculiarities that Halal food presents as a key factor for the development of this type of tourism. In this sense, a critical review of the academic literature on Halal food in the tourism context is carried out, mainly focused on a search through two scientific bases, namely Web of Science and Scopus. As a result, the relevance of the availability of Halal food as a critical factor for the choice of a destination or tourism service by Muslims, is evidenced.
