Abstract

The interest in recent decades in the phenomenon of new global businesses, known by its English term "born globals", has led to a considerable increase, evolution and accumulation of existing knowledge, giving rise to the need to carry out periodically a review, synthesis and thematic organization of them in order to describe the current state of knowledge. This article complements previous studies by systematically reviewing 69 articles on born globals published in impact journals during the last five years (2015-2020) and their thematic classification. The aims of this work are: to know the current state of knowledge about the phenomenon, to identify the most repeated topics during the last years, to highlight possible future trends and lines of research and to serve as a summary and starting point for future researchers interested in this type of enterprise. Analysis of the literature shows that the study of born globals continues to be a topic of interest nowadays, reflecting a greater focus on the factors that condition performance and survival and/or failure after internationalization. In addition, research into this phenomenon continues to have a rich potential for the development of future works that complements existing ones and allows differences between countries and industries to be identified.
