Imitación del poema noveno del Corpus Priapeorum en un epigrama latino de Rodrigo Morgante a Santa Helena

Abstract

Edición crítica, traducción rítmica y comentario del epigrama presentado por Rodrigo Morgante a la justa literaria celebrada en Sevilla el día 29 de junio de 1555. Lo más notorio de este epigrama es que, aparte de un verso virgiliano, otro de Marcial, varios del Arte de amar de Ovidio y algunos otros, está basado en el poema noveno del Corpus Priapeorum referido al falo de Príapo comparada con las de otros diez dioses, que constituye una fuente insólita en la poesía neolatina española, y particularmente en alabanza de una santa en unas justas organizadas en la Catedral de Sevilla. Trato asimismo sobre el autor de este epigrama, sobre los epigramas con que compitió, e identifico a los dos teólogos que dieron su aprobación al poema: el fraile franciscano Juan de San Miguel, que estuvo al frente de la Orden de San Francisco en Andalucía, y Antonio Ruiz de Morales, sobrino de Ambrosio de Morales y amigo de Benito Arias Montano. Comento luego la estructura anular del poema; su contenido basado en el sobrepujamiento de los dioses antiguos; su estilo grave y emotivo, con elegantes construcciones en quiasmo y trimembres, aliteraciones y una comparación de tipo homérico; la métrica de los dísticos en relación con sus fuentes literarias.
