Abstract

ABSTRACT: Through this research, I’m looking for understand the conditions that have been generated a cultural change in the mortuary rituals of the black communities of the Colombian pacific region, from the political, social and economic dynamics that brought out the encounter of Alabaos, Gualíes and tomb’s uprising of San Juan region, Chocó, in the middle of the 90’s of the XX century. To show these ritual changes, I investigate the perspective of historical relationships (otherness background), political relationships (power games where the cultural capital is involved as its best ally), economic relationships (market and interests and values transactions), and cultural relationships (multiculturalism, interculturality, and hybridization) that have been developed in the region which brings me to some crossing lines identification between the actors-spectators and the mortuary ritual agents, as a result of a constant movement between tradition and modernity, in the context of global policies of the present days.
