Abstract

RESUMEN: Los óxidos de hierro constituyen una familia de compuestos encontrados ampliamente en la naturaleza, los cuales se forman mediante varios procesos, entre los que se encuentras la corrosión de las aleaciones de hierro. La magnetita es uno de los óxidos de hierro constituyentes en la herrumbre de los aceros autoprotectores. Se estudió el efecto tanto estructural como en las propiedades protectoras, que sobre la magnetita tuvo el cerio y el titanio, separadamente. Por tal razón, se desarrolló una investigación consistente en varias etapas iniciando con la síntesis de las magnetitas por vías hidrotermal. Se realizó una completa caracterización mediante técnicas como XRD, MS, TEM y el análisis químico por palografía. Posteriormente se evaluaron las propiedades eléctricas, y electroquímicas para medir su efecto protector en soluciones cloradas. Los resultados obtenidos permiten concluir que el cerio y titanio modifican las propiedades eléctricas de la magnetita, transformándola en un óxido más resistivo con propiedades pasivantes respecto al acero, lo cual repercute favorablemente en la promoción del carácter anticorrosivo de aceros autoprotectores que contengan estos aleantes.
