ABSTRACT: This article invites the reader to think about the urban local history from the perspective of the neighborhood history. The working class neighborhood, in this case, the Castilla neighborhood of Medellin, as a place of urban identity, is questioned from several writings, visual, literary and historical oral sources, in the violent successions in recent times that have created places of memory throughout the years, and its relation with local and national history, especially between 1950 and 2000. This article hopes to go beyond the typical stigmatization visions that usually see the working class neighborhoods as a subnormal space, by trying to carry out a special exercise based on the microhistory of every day life.
