Abstract

RESUMEN: La imagen que de la Policía se ha concebido en Medellín, se refleja especialmente en las opiniones que sobre esta emite la sociedad de manera espontanea y permanente. Los juicios sobre la seguridad y la inseguridad en la ciudad, sobre la presencia, acción y proyección de la policía, así como sobre la relación de la institución con la ley, permiten precisar qué tipo de imagen tiene la sociedad de la institución del Estado con la cual tiene potencialmente mayor relación. En este sentido, un estudio de opinión muestra tendencias que son importantes para apreciar la forma que adopta la relación policía-sociedad, pero desde otra perspectiva: la que surge de la sociedad. No se trata, por supuesto, de reducir un fenómeno a términos cuantitativos ni de conceder a las estadísticas la exclusiva capacidad explicativa de una realidad compleja e irreductible. Se trata de contar con un nivel de análisis adicional proporcionado por las opiniones de la población, diferenciadas según estratos socio-económicos, y de reconocer en estas opiniones las expectativas que la sociedad genera respecto a la institución.
