RESUMEN: Resultados de investigación. El selenio es una mineral traza de importancia biológica en la acuicultura para la formación de selenoproteínas que participan en la homeostasis del organismo como antioxidantes. En sistemas acuáticos, la suplementación con este mineral influye en los parámetros zootécnicos, la bioquímica sanguínea y fortalece el sistema inmunológico. El objetivo de este trabajo fue “Evaluar el efecto del selenio orgánico sobre parámetros fisiológicos en machos de blanquillo Sorubim cuspicaudus”. Reproductores de blanquillo (n=56) con peso y longitud promedio de 485,6 g y 39,3 cm respectivamente, fueron tratados con dietas enriquecidas con Se, distribuidos en cuatro tratamientos con tres réplicas cada uno, en piletas de 6,3 m3 así: T1:0, T2:1,5, T3:2,0; T4:2,5mg Se/kg de alimento, durante 14 semanas. Al final del experimento se registró longitud, peso, factor de condición y sobrevivencia. Se tomaron muestras de sangre para medición de transaminasas y cortisol. Además, se realizó histopatología 7 (hígado, riñón) e histología gonadal. Los parámetros zootécnicos y química sanguínea no presentaron diferencia significativa entre tratamientos sin embargo a nivel histopatológico, los animales de T3 y T4 presentaron lesiones moderadas a severas en riñón y leves en el hígado asociadas a toxicidad por selenio. Los hallazgos del presente estudio sugieren que una dosis de selenio por encima 1,5mg Se/Kg de alimento en reproductores de blanquillo genera toxicidad.
ABSTRACT: Selenium, a trace mineral of biological importance in aquaculture for the formation of selenoproteins that participate in the homeostasis of the body, as antioxidants. In aquatic systems, supplementation with this mineral influences zootechnical parameters, blood biochemistry and strengthens the immune system. The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of selenium on physiological parameters in male tilefish Sorubim cuspicaudus. 56 tilefish broodstock with average weight and length of 485.6 g and 39.3 cm respectively, were distributed in four treatments with three replications, in 6,3 m3 pools as follows: T1: 0, T2: 1.5, T3: 2, T4: 2.5mg/Se/kg of food, the specimens were supplemented for 14 weeks. At the end of the experiment, length, weight, feed conversion, condition factor and survival rate were recorded. They were anesthetized with Eugenol (0.5ml/L/water) for blood extraction to measure transaminases and cortisol. Finally, they were sacrificed with an overdose of the anesthetic for tissue extraction for histopathological analysis (liver and kidney). No treatment showed a significant difference in zootechnical parameters or blood chemistry. At the histopathological level, the T 3 and T4 animals had severe kidney lesions and less severe liver lesions associated with selenium toxicity. Conclusion: The current study's findings suggest that a selenium dose greater than 1.5mg/Se causes toxicity in tilefish broodstock.
