RESUMEN: Una de las habilidades fundamentales que necesita el analista social es la de analizar el material simbólico o ""cualitativo"". Gran parte de la, investigación social moderna consiste en clasificar, ordenar, cuantificar e interpretar los productos verbales y otros productos simbólicos de individuos y grupos. En este documento consideraremos algunos de los tipos de material que pueden analizarse sistemáticamente, algunos principios importantes de la conversión del ""fenómeno"" simbólico en ""dato"" científico, algunos de los criterios útiles para guiar las decisiones que deben adoptarse al construir el sistema de categorización y algunas de las prácticas que se consideran útiles en el proceso de categorizar el material simbólico.

ABSTRACT: One of the key skills needed by the analyst is to analyze social material symbolic or "qualitative".
