RESUMEN: Este documento presenta la estimación del Indicador de Calidad de Vida (ICV) para los hogares en los municipios del área metropolitana de Medellín. La metodología estadística empleada se basa en el uso de los métodos de Cuantificación de Variables Cualitativas y el Análisis No Lineal de Componentes Principales. Una descripción de dicha metodología se encuentra en Young (1981), Gifi (1990) y una breve introducción se encuentra en el Apéndice. Basados en la información suministrada por la Encuesta de Calidad de Vida (ECV) realizada el año 2007 para los municipios de Barbosa, Bello, Caldas, Copacabana, Girardota, Itagüí, La Estrella, Sabaneta y Medellín, se construyeron indicadores para medir la calidad de vida de los hogares tanto en el área urbana como rural. Dichos indicadores son un resumen de diferentes características relacionadas con la vivienda, aspectos demográficos de las personas que componen el hogar, el acceso a los servicios públicos, y el capital humano y la seguridad social del hogar. El indicador asigna a cada hogar un puntaje varía entre cero y cien: A medida que el valor del índice aumenta, las condiciones de vida del hogar mejoran.

ABSTRACT: This document presents the estimation of the Indicator of Quality of Life (ICV) for the homes in the municipalities of the metropolitan area of Medellín. Based on the information provided by the Survey of Quality of Vida (ECV) realised year 2007 for the municipalities of Barbosa, Beautiful, Calda, Copacabana, Girardota, Itagüí, the Star, Sabaneta and Medellín, indicators were constructed to as much measure the quality of life of the homes in the urban area as rural. These indicators are a summary of different characteristics related to the house, demographic aspects of the people who compose the home, the access to the services public, and the human capital and the social security of the home. The indicator assigns to each home a puntaje varies between zero and one hundred: As the value of the index increases, the conditions of life of the home improve.
