Abstract

ABSTRACT: The mean kinetic temperature (MKT) is an internationally accepted parameter to define both, the temperature conditions in long term stability studies, and the conditions under which drug products should be stored. In this paper, the MKT is defined and its importance is discussed, as well as its differences with the average temperature. In addition, different methodologies to calculate the MKT are described. Finally, it is presented the way by which this concept is used for defining the Climatic Zone temperature conditions. These Climatic zones determine the long term stability studies for drug products. This paper summarizes some bibliography reviews of researches and articles related to this topic. These were written during a period of 39 years that goes from 1964 to 2003.
