Miasis en humanos

Abstract

ABSTRACT: Myasls Is the Infestatlon of organs and tlssues by larvae of dlfferent specles of flles. There were two pathways In the blo-phylogenetlc evolutlon of myasls, namely: a) a IIne started with ancestors that fed on other Insects and acqulred hematophaglc hab"s; later they became obllgatory parasltes of vertebrates. b) The second Ilne started wlth polyphaglc ancestors that fed on decomposlng organlc rnatter and became parasltes by proxlmlty to other organlsms of the same ecologlcal habltat; these forms of evolutlon may be the explanatlon for the varlous types of parasltlsm of present day flles. Myasls causes dlfferent syndromes according to the affected slte; It may even, In some cases, cause death. The skln Is most frequently Involved but In rare cases there has been Invaslon of eyes, nose, paranasal slnuses, urogenltal tract and rectum. In these Instancesassoclated condltlons have usually been present, I,ke prevlous InJuries or purulent discharge that attract adult flles. In Colombia and other neotroplcal countrles myasls Is regularly observed but there Is a lack of accurate statlstics on It. This review intends to contrlbute to a better knowledge of thls dlsease.
