Desarrollo agropecuario de Caucasia- Antioquia 1930-1970.

Abstract

ABSTRACT: Since 1930 the Caucasia municipality, in the Lower Cauca region, has had a notable agricultural and livestock economy, due to the opening of new lands and the consolidation of farms, most larger than 300 hectares, dedicated to agricultural and livestock activities, transforming this municipality into the supplier of agricultural products such as rice and corn as well as cattle. With the increase in the price of gold to over 100 dollars per ounce on international markets during the 1970’s, the economy of Caucasia turned to mining, which attracted miners from different parts of the country and expanded the urban area, turning it into the main centre of the region.
