Kormoranide Phalacrocorax carbo sinensis (Staunton, 1796) toitumine Lämmijärvel

Abstract

The study of the diet of the Great Cormorant (Phalacrocorax carbo sinensis) at Lake Lämmijärv provides important information about the species' impact on the local fish populations and ecosystem. Previous research has mainly focused on the distribution and population dynamics of cormorants, while detailed analyses of their diet have been limited. The aim of this thesis was to map and analyze the diet of cormorants in the Lämmijärv area using food remains collected during fieldwork and statistical data processing. The study's database was formed from detailed analyses of food remains collected near cormorant nests and compared with previous similar studies. The results showed that cormorants primarily fed on roach, white bream, and perch. The pressure exerted by cormorants on perch may therefore influence the fate of this commercially valuable species in both Lake Lämmijärv and Lake Peipsi. The material collected in the study indicates the need for continued research and a more precise assessment of the impact of cormorants. The results of the study can be used in both nature conservation planning and fisheries policy development.
