Kurgede (sugukond Gruidae) rändeökoloogia

Migration ecology of cranes (family Gruidae)
Authors: Raja, Mari;

Kurgede (sugukond Gruidae) rändeökoloogia

Abstract

Family Gruidae consists of 15 crane species. Ten of them are migratory species, and five are non-migratory species. This bachelor's thesis aims to gather information about the migration ecology of cranes marked with radio transmitters. The thesis is written based on literature. The migration parameters were collected from 24 articles, based on which the database was compiled in an Excel program. Migration parameters are next: migration distance, the season of migration, migration duration (days), the start of migration, end of migration, total refuelling time (days), total flight days, mean daily distance covered over the total flight period (km/24h), overall migration speed (km/24h). The results show that the crane's migration distance varies by species, on average 906-6750 km. Mean spring migration lasts from March 23rd till April 19th, and autumn migration from October 9th till November 2nd. Spring migration is, on average, significantly shorter (30,9 days) and has a more significant overall migration speed (130,2 km/24h) than autumn migration which lasts on average 42 days with an overall migration speed of 105,8 km/24h. Migration duration and overall migration speed are affected by total refuelling time, which constitutes spring on average 53% and autumn 85% of the entire migration duration. The mean daily distance in spring and autumn are similar, correspondingly 322,8 and 309,1 km/24h. There will be more migration data about cranes tagged with radio transmitters in future which gives more opportunities to analyze migration ecology.

Sugukond kurglased (Gruidae) koosneb 15-st kureliigist. Neist kümme on rändsed ning viis on paiksed liigid. Bakalaureusetöö eesmärgiks oli teha kirjanduse põhjal ülevaade kureliikide rändeökoloogia kohta. Rännet iseloomustavad parameetrid (8) saadi 24-st artiklist üheksa kureliigi kohta, mida koguti Excel’i andmetabelisse. Rände parameetrid on: rände kogupikkus, rändeperiood, rändeperioodi pikkus päevades, rände algus, rände lõpp, rändepeatuste kogupikkus päevades, rändepäevade arv, keskmine päevane rändekiirus ja üldine rände kiirus. Rände andmeid koguti neist artiklitest, mis kirjeldasid raadiosaatjatega kurgede rännet. Kurgede rändetee pikkus varieerub liigiti keskmiselt 906- 6750 km.
