Variation in mechanical and physical properties of birch plywood after soaking and oven-drying cycles

Vineeri füüsikaliste ja mehaaniliste omaduste varieerumine ligunemise ja väljakuivamise tsüklite järel

Abstract

In this master thesis a 12 mm thick birch plywood soaking and drying cycles effect on bending strength (BS), modulus of elasticity (MOE) and thickness swelling (TS) were investigated. Universal test machine Instron 3699 was used, to determine MOR and MOE. The methodology was done by according to the European Standards (EN). Measurements were done parallel and perpendicular directions to the face grain. There was a total of 10 series, each had 24 test pieces in parallel and perpendicular directions. Each series were soaked for 24 hours and then oven-dried for 48 hours. Test pieces 1-12 were measured with moisture content ~40% and test pieces 13-24 were measured with moisture content ~8%. The test results showed that the pieces were most affected by the first soaking series. After the first soaking cycle BS and MOE at moisture content 40% accounted for 50% and 57% of the values determined. BS and MOE at moisture content 8% accounted for 75% and 91% of the values determined. The values of BS and MOE were always higher on the parallel direction to the face grain than those on the perpendicular directions.

Antud magistritöös uuriti 12 mm paksuse kasevineeri ligunemise ja väljakuivamise tsüklite mõju vineeri paindetugevusele, elastsusmoodulile ja pundumisele. Uuringus kasutati universaalset puidukatsemasinat Instron 3369, mille abil määrati paindetugevus ja elastsusmoodul. Katsete metoodika vastab Euroopa standarditele.
