Abstract

This dissertation aims at contributing to face the current challenges in Forensic Linguistics. To do so, a corpus consisting of 419 scam emails and a corpus consisting of real threat and extortion letters have been compiled. The analysis of the texts has been carried out with the help of two tools (Tropes and Seouscout) and has focused on the search for linguistic-discursive patterns that could be linked to the intention in texts. Text structure, frequency of use of grammar categories, topics, text length and communicative elements, such as sender and recipient have been explored. The results show similarities regarding topics and the use of fact verbs and first and second person pronouns. Also, they show differences in terms of closeness to formal structure of letters, text length and persuasion strategies
