This review essay surveys the research trends that have characterized Maghrib literary scholarship in the last few decades. As the manifold facets of Maghrib peoples increasingly came to be recognized, Maghrib literatures were progressively studied through innovative critical lenses, including those of cultural studies, postcolonial studies, women's studies, queer studies, and religious studies. This new scholarhip reflects the contemporary Maghrib, which has now morphed into Tamazgha, the land of the Amazighs. The latter extends the boundaries of Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia, thus comprising Libya, Mauritania, the Western Sahara, and the diaspora
