Nuevas tendencias alimentarias: vegetarianismo y ortorexia nerviosa

Abstract

Introduction: The advent of social networks has led to overexposure to a thin aesthetic ideal to be an omnipresent internalized fact within society and conceived as a reality. As a result, there is an increase in the emergence of new diets and habits of life that can lead to the development of nutritional problems, as well as pathological behaviours resulting in physical and mental deterioration. Objective: collect information about vegetarian diets and ortorexia nervosa to determine the role of the nurse in both concepts. Methodology and Results: 24 scientific publications were reviewed, mainly observational quantitative studies and narrative reviews. The most relevant information was analyzed for each objective and a possible nurse role was proposed for each concept. Conclusions: health professionals play a fundamental role when it comes to providing accurate knowledge about food and healthy living habits, as a way to avoid the emergence of nutritional deficits and the problems that these imply, as well as reducing the development of eating disorders that disturb the physical, mental and social health of the population.
