Abstract

Aim: the purpose of this study is to know the experience and care of puerperal women and of their partner in the japanese culture. Methodology: a narrative review is proposed through the search of information in the databases PubMed, CINAHL, Scielo, CUIDEN, repository of the University of La Rioja (Dialnet), Web Of Science and Science Direct. Free and controlled language has been used, combining the terms through the Boolean operators "AND" and "OR". The results have been limited to the last 5 years (2014 - 2019) and to the English, French, Portuguese and Spanish languages Results: 22 documents were selected and 4 analysis units were established: Socioeconomic and cultural factors that influence the construction of the maternal and paternal figure in the postpartum period; Consequences of delayed maternity age during postpartum; Factors that influence the performance of the maternal role and health factors related to puerperium care. Discussion: the increasing maternal age and the declining birth rate have shown an attempt to break the gender roles in Japan, making the study of older primiparous women a recent clinical concern. On the other hand, the women-centred care carried out by midwives is being promoted both intrahospital and out of hospital environment thanks to the benefits observed. Conclusions: The knowledge of cultural diversity in the experience and puerperal care allows us to move away from ethnocentrism and guarantee an individualized care.
