Abstract

The objective of this study is the design of an intervention program for the treatment of Non-Suicidal Self-Injury (NSSI) in young people. The intervention will be carried out in the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Unit of Almería’s Hospital, on groups between 14 and 18 years old. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) will be used as the main method of intervention, linked to Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DCT). The program includes 6 modules that are based on Psychoeducation Technique, for parents and young people, Cognitive Restructuring Technique, Problem Solving, Impulse Control and Emotional Regulation Technique coming from the DCT. The expected results show that the intervention could help increase knowledge of the aspects related to NSSI, in the modification of dysfunctional thinking patterns, in the improvement of problem solving, increase of impulse control and emotional regulation. The union of CBT and DCT could be a powerful tool for the treatment of NSSI in adolescents because it includes distinctive aspects related to self-injurious behaviors
