Abstract

Despite being the founder of the Syrian Muslim Brotherhood, Mustapha al‐Sibai is still widely unknown. However, certain aspects of his ideology, such as the preservation of the republican system are of great interest today. After the shift of some sectors of the organization towards less inclusive and tolerant tenets, the younger generations, whose role has stepped up since 2011, have retrieved part of his legacy and are today the best representatives of the original non‐dogmatic spirit of the Brotherhood. Through their writings and statements, this study aims at stating whether the younger generations can be labeled as heirs of Sibai and renovators of the Brotherhood
