Los sinuosos caminos del racismo: el racismo ambiental en Argentina

Abstract

El artículo hace referencia a la evolución de las doctrinas racistas y su impacto en las ciencias sociales. Se analiza la capacidad de las doctrinas y políticas racistas de adaptarse a los nuevos contextos. En este sentido, se entiende que el racismo ambiental es una continuación y transformación del racismo que no puede ser desvinculado del contexto histórico, social y político. El autor analiza los orígenes del racismo ambiental en Estados Unidos. Finalmente el artículo reflexiona sobre un caso particular de racismo ambiental en Argentina referido a la grave degradación del medioambiente que sufren los pueblos originarios del Chaco. Para concluir el artículo debate sobre la postura activa que deberían tomar los científicos sociales y antropólogos respecto a las políticas públicas basadas en el racismo ambiental que se aplican sobre las comunidades más débiles y minoritarias de la sociedad nacional

This paper refers to the evolution of racist doctrines and their impact on the social sciences. The author analyzes the capacity of racist doctrines and policies to adapt to new contexts. In this sense, it is understood that environmental racism is a continuation and transformation of racism that cannot be dissociated from the historical, social and political context. The author analyzes the origins of environmental racism in United States. Finally the article reflects on a particular case of environmental racism in Argentina referred to the serious environmental degradation suffered by peoples of the Chaco. To conclude the article discussion on active stance to be taken by anthropologists and social scientists regarding public policies based on environmental racism that are applied to the weaker and minority communities of the national society
