Personas jóvenes extuteladas y sinhogarismo

Abstract

In Spain, there are around 30,000 minors ward of the State. They are considered adults at the age of 18 years old, so they must go their way autonomously and independently. In this transition, the risk of residential exclusion increases, and many of these youth end up homeless. This paper analyzes the situation of wards of the state when they are about to turn eighteen and the risk of homelessness associated with the process of deinstitutionalization and transition to adult life. This work focuses on the profile of homeless people who have spent most of their childhood being ward of the state, paying special attention to those who have been unaccompanied foreign minors.
