Presentación. Crisis rurales. Estado, mercado y comunidad

Abstract

In this text we share a conceptual reflection on the notions of rurality and crisis that serves as a presentation of this special issue. It emphasises that the rural constitutes a cultural universe in itself, despite its heterogeneity and incessant dynamics. Furthermore, it highlights that crisis is a paradoxical way of understanding permanence and change, firmly anchored to our urbanormative perspective on the rural world. By bringing the two concepts together, we can approach the "rural crisis" in a complex way, taking into account all its dimensions and edges. These include demographic disruption, loss of food sovereignty, erosion of community relations, increased social vulnerability (age, gender), expansion of extractivism, communication and mobility deficits. From this perspective, rural crises can be understood as a result of the permanent tension between the dynamics and interests of the state, the market and the community.
