Abstract

Pedestrian activities in the urban environments of Granada influence the use and social perception of the city. Using surveys, focus groups, and ethnographic observation, social activities on the streets beyond transit are identified and categorized. The findings reveal that third places like terraces are central to social interactions, often in conflict with the use of public infrastructure. Vehicular traffic hinders social interactions, highlighting the need for better management of public space as a physical place. Additionally, the preferences of young people aged 18 to 29 are explored, showing patterns between social practices and urban identity. The results underscore the importance of social dynamics in the city, emphasizing the urgency of creating inclusive and vibrant public spaces, overcoming existing conflicts, improving quality of life, and strengthening community ties.
