Abstract

This Master’s Thesis focuses on the Grutesca ceramic pitcher, a craft element deeply rooted in the heritage and culture of Andújar, witch unfortunately has experienced a decline in its relevance due to its lack of connection with the modern world. This disconnection has led to a constant decrease in its annual production reflecting a loss of interest from the public. The goal of the research is to revitalize this legacy by addressing its theoretical understanding through the analysis of its roots, forms and unique symbolism that stands out in the Spanish ceramic landscape. This work will not only assert this legacy in a theoretical way but also in an artistic way from the perspective of contemporary ornamentation. In this regard, the creation of a visual hypothesis is proposed, and starting from the essential elements of this craftsmanship, it will update its look and concept to align with the tastes of the contemporary consumer. The proposition not only aims to rescue the historical and cultural relevance of the Grutesca pitcher, but also to incorporate it into the current artistic realm, thus contributing to its preservation and attracting new interest from modern audiences.
