En este artículo se revisa la mayor parte de la bibliografía existente acerca de la oxidación de la glucosa por Trypanosoma cruzi, también llamada "fermentación aerobia", y se hace mención de las principales diferencias metabólicas con las células de mamíferos. Dichas diferencias podrían emplearse para el desarrollo de nuevos y más eficaces quimioterápicos.
The literature about the oxidation of glucose by Trypanosoma cruzi, also namely "aerobic fermentation", is reviewed. The most important metabolic differences between mammal and T. cruzi cells are mentioned. These differences could be used for the development of new trypanocidal drugs.
