Objective. To explore the relationship between the way in which self-concept is represented and emotional stability. Method. With an associative design and a correlational method, 106 psychology students (84% women) complimented some demographic items; a trait-sorting task to measure self-complexity and, for seven consecutive days, a measure of affective state. Results. Self-complexity has not been related to affective variability nor to the mean of general affect. It has been found a positive correlation between self-complexity and affective intensity. Conclusion. Overall, these results imply some evidence for and against Linville’s model (1985). Limitations and implications of this study are discussed
