Abstract

The relation between art and education is intense. It not only refers to the teaching and learning of art in schools; art itself has an important educational potential, useful for learning about the problems of our time. For this reason, museums have developed an increasingly important educational function. Museums have gone from being private centers for the enjoyment of a few to public institutions with massive access. In addition, museums have ceased to be only places of storage and exhibition of works of art to develop an important educational function. This paper analyzes the educational function of the current contemporary art museum and its educational strategies. The work shows that, on the one hand, museums pay more and more attention to educational activities, although there is no consensus on the most appropriate educational policy.
