Electrofisiología cortical en retinosis pigmentaria

Abstract

La retinosis pigmentaria (RP) es una enfermedad ocular de carácter degenerativo y origen congénito-hereditario, que produce una grave discapacidad visual y en muchos casos conduce a la ceguera. Los estudios electrofisiológicos son un método habitual en la exploración clínica del sistema visual humano. El electroencefalograma (EEG) refleja la actividad eléctrica cerebral espontánea y los potenciales evocados visuales (PEV) la respuesta cortical a estímulos visuales externos. Los PEV son especialmente útiles en el diagnóstico y seguimiento de la RP, permitiendo detectar actividad en la corteza visual de pacientes que no muestran respuesta con otras técnicas electrofisiológicas. El objetivo del presente estudio es evaluar mediante pruebas de electrofisiología cortical la función visual de una muestra de pacientes diagnosticados con RP.
