La iconografia vampírica resulta tan antigua como la propia existencia del mito, y tan variada como lo fueron sus diferentes referentes culturales. La evolución del vampiro masculino, dominante a partir de la figura literaria de Drácula, responde a un relato de dominación. Aunque la versión femenina del mito procede de la Antigüedad, asumida luego por el cristianismo medieval, perpetuada como emblema de la "femme fatale" y popularizada a través de la "vamp" cinematográfica.
The vampire iconography is as old as the existence of the myth, and as varied as were their different cultural references. The evolution of male vampire, from the dominant literary figure of Dracula, responds to a story of domination. Although the female version of the myth comes from antiquity, then assumed by medieval Christianity, perpetuated as an emblem of the "femme fatale" and popularized by the vamp.
