Abstract

The Chancilleria of Granada, trying to hide behing the defense of the common welfare, intervenes in the city government all through the Modern Age, in spite of the fact that it is legally forbidden till the XVIIIth century. In the following pages the writer analyzes the different stages of this performance and the struggles between the Chancilleria and the Town Council. It is emphasized the fact that, due to the “Crown” support and the bad municipal administration, the Chancilleria manages to get over the legal obstacles which prevent it from taking part in the government of Granada, increasing its sphere of influence.
