Este estudio analiza primeramente el proceso de integración jurídica europea en el ámbito del Derecho privado, poniendo de relieve los problemas de coherencia en el Derecho privado comunitario actual y el papel del Derecho internacional privado. En una segunda parte se valoran las posibilides de alcanzar un auténtico Derecho privado europeo a través de técnicas de hard y soft law y se critica la idea de un Código civil europeo.

This survey firstly analyses the european legal unification process in the field of Private Law, emphasizing the problems of consistency of current european private law and the role of Private International Law. The Feasibility of a very European Private Law under hard or soft law and a critique of the idea of a European Civil Code is the subject of the second part.
