El siglo XX en general, y su segunda mitad en particular, se caracterizó por un enorme crecimiento de las ciudades frente al ámbito rural. En Málaga, se experimentó desde finales de los años cincuenta un cambio importante en el modelo económico y cultural en relación con tres aspectos: la despoblación del interior y su respuesta con nuevos poblados para equilibrar el territorio, la implantación del fenómeno turístico para el nuevo visitante, afectando directa o indirectamente a la provincia con un desarrollo urbano sin precedentes, y el mayor crecimiento progresivo de la historia de la ciudad de Málaga. Más tarde, será la transición democrática la que provoque unas transformaciones desde lo social e institucional, dotando a la arquitectura y al urbanismo de una nueva imagen pública. Partiendo de este contexto, se propone el comienzo de este viaje por la mejor arquitectura de la segunda mitad del siglo XX en Málaga, por la más conocida y también por alguna otra olvidada, pasando por el paisaje, el turismo y la vivienda colectiva, esta última entendida como pieza básica de la forma urbana que manifiesta la evolución de la arquitectura en este periodo.

The 20th century in general, and its second half in particular, was characterized by enormous urban growth at the expense of rural areas. In Málaga, from the late 1950s onwards, a significant shift occurred in the economic and cultural model related to three aspects: the depopulation of the interior and the resulting development of new towns to balance the territory; the rise of tourism, attracting new visitors and directly or indirectly impacting the province with unprecedented urban development; and the most rapid growth in the history of the city of Málaga. Later, the democratic transition brought about social and institutional transformations, giving architecture and urban planning a new public image. Against this backdrop, this journey begins, exploring the finest architecture of the second half of the 20th century in Málaga—both the most well-known and some lesser-known examples—and examining the landscape, tourism, and collective housing, the latter understood as a fundamental element of the urban form that reflects the evolution of architecture during this period.
