The presence of parasites in different parts of the planet and its relationship with physical (latitude, longitude, altitude) and biological factors (flora and fauna of the area) are closely linked to the presence and / or absence of intermediate hosts. The studies carried out in ancient material are diverse, covering a wide chronology. Through these, we can infer the habits of these populations, being able to show socio-economic activities, as well as the presence of certain domestic and peridomestic animals. We can see and deduce that parasitology in general is closely related to the ways of life of human groups, both past and present throughout the planet. This work refers to the main advances produced in this discipline at a global level, as well as the different works carried out in Spain and the future perspectives of this discipline. The paleoparasitological study is a first-rate tool, which provides a large number of evidence about the real situation of the populations of the past in terms of their living conditions.
