Contaminantes emergentes en aguas residuales tratadas: riesgos ambientales sobre un humedal Ramsar

Abstract

Este estudio investigó la presencia y distribución de contaminantes emergentes en aguas superficiales en Fuente de Piedra (Málaga, España), un humedal Ramsar relevante por su valor ecológico y que recibe aguas residuales tratadas de una depuradora próxima al área de estudio. Se establecieron 5 estaciones de muestreo a lo largo del flujo de agua que discurre a través de una serie de lagunas seminaturales desde la depuradora hasta la laguna de Fuente de Piedra. Los resultados revelaron la presencia de un total de 34 contaminantes emergentes detectados de manera habitual en todas las muestras analizadas durante un periodo de 4 meses. Los contaminantes más abundantes fueron fármacos (13), seguidos de pesticidas (11), drogas y sustancias estimulantes (9) y productos de cuidado personal (1). La evolución espacio-temporal de 6 contaminantes emergentes seleccionados (cafeína, benzoilecgonina, naproxeno, ofloxacina, imidacloprid y diazinón) mostró concentraciones decrecientes de estos contaminantes a su paso por las lagunas seminaturales, lo que demuestra el papel depurador de dichas lagunas. Las estimaciones de los cocientes de riesgo revelaron un riesgo moderado-alto de la cafeína para los dos niveles tróficos (zooplancton y fitoplancton), un rango bajo o sin riesgo-medio de ofloxacina y diazinón sólo para el zooplancton, y de naproxeno para los dos niveles tróficos, y por último un riesgo bajo o sin riesgo de benzoilecgonina e imidacloprid para los dos niveles tróficos. Estos resultados permitirán en un futuro llevar a cabo ensayos ecotoxicológicos para ver los efectos de distintas concentraciones de estos contaminantes sobre diferentes especies acuáticas representativas.
