Abstract

Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS) are emerging as a key technology for transforming radio systems, both in communication and radar applications, in response to the challenges posed by the evolution toward 6G. To fully realize their potential, these devices must incorporate efficient control electronics and intelligent capabilities that enable autonomous and adaptive reconfiguration according to the environment. With this objective, this master's thesis will focus on designing the control electronics using VHDL, which will allow for complete device reconfiguration and communication between the RIS elements and the module responsible for managing the panel to be configured. Additionally, a visual tracking system using a camera will be implemented, capable of detecting and following targets to dynamically adjust the direction of the beam reflected by the RIS. This system, deployed on different platforms, will handle image capture and processing to estimate the user's position and dynamically orient the RIS, thus enabling efficient transmission.
