El presente trabajo aporta las claves explicativas para entender los procesos que han dado lugar a la creación y consolidación del espacio metropolitano almeriense, analiza su peculiar estructura funcional y urbana, acercándonos, de este modo, a los procesos de cohesión territorial que en torno a él se han generado. Así mismo, y con la ayuda de la planificación vigente y el análisis de las grandes transformaciones de los últimos años, se presenta un diagnóstico territorial que nos permite identificar las tendencias actuales de crecimiento que caracterizan a una red urbana que cuenta, de la mano de la mejora de las infraestructuras viarias y la expansión logística, con enormes posibilidades de crecimiento en un futuro inmediato.

The present study provides key explanations in understanding the processes that have led to the creation and consolidation of metropolitan space of Almeria, analyzes its unique urban and functional structure, whereby bringing us to the processes of territorial cohesion around which has been generated around it. Along these lines and with the help of existing planning and the analysis of the major changes in recent years, we will obtain a territorial diagnosis that allows us to identify the current growth trends that characterize the urban network, has huge potential for growth in the near future through the logistical expansion and improving road infrastructure.
