A revision of the lithic assamblages defined as Gravettian/Perigordian in the Iberian Peninsula is developed attending the different researches on this type of material and to their archaeological, chronological and palaeoclimatic contexts. A synthesis on the industrial interpretation proposals that have been presented so far is suggested. Calibrated radiocarbon ages of all the available dates for the Gravettian are provided and finally the relations are explored for the dates and the palaeoclimatic contexts in which the samples were formed. To conclude, the necessity to revise the idea of unity or identity that is usually given to this hypothetical ‘culture’ or technical tradition is pointed out.
