Abstract

This thesis analyzes Physical Education meanings and practices in a secondary school. We discuss its place within the institution educational proposal considering that the board of directors thinks that the students belong to upper middle class. We propose studying different disciplinary conceptions of Physical Education in institutional documents, professor approaches and their implementation it in the class. We also identify, analyze and compare meanings and practices of Physical Education and the sports involved in the process, analyzing its conception of the student's bodies. In this way, we approach the connection between the different levels of curricular concretion, especially between the institutional level and the level of the teaching situation. Furthermore, we analyze how Physical Education participates in the process of socialization by means of daily school life approach. From a qualitative methodology, we do a case study that includes document analysis, participant observations and semi-structured interviews in depth. Thus, we observe classes and we consider what professors and directors say, institutional documents, annual Physical Education plans and compulsory student readings.
