Abstract

The fruit species that has grown the most in Catalonia in recent years is peach and nectarine and in particular, there has been a productive increase in Catalonia of 17% from 2005 to 2011 and stood in 2010 in the 402,000 t. Growth or decline has been the result, ultimately, of the "adequate" or "inadequate" average profitability that the crop has given during recent campaigns. The 2011 campaign, however, has been catastrophic and there has been a serious market crisis and it is necessary to analyze the competitiveness of the Catalan peach and nectarine sector and its future prospects.
