Abstract

Demand of organic products has considerably increased in the last few years both in Spain and the rest of Europe. However, few farmers decide to produce pome and stone fruits in this system because they harbour several reserves about it. This paper presents a proposal of organic management of apple pests (rosy apple aphid, codlingmoth, Mediterranean fruit fly and, wood-boring caterpillars) and disease (apple scab and powdery mildew) that is the result of the experience in research in IRTA and UdL (Catalonia) and in SERIDA(Asturias). This proposal gives priority to the use of resistant varieties and, management strategies such as cultural practices and the use of allowed products by the European regulations for organic production are discusse.
