Introduction: Over the years, a lack of school nurses in the different educational centers has been observed, affecting the health of both children and adolescents. Generally, the social determinants of health (the situations in which children are born, grow up, go to school and age), are some of the factors that affect children's health, which can be translated in to health inequalities. Thus, school and family are the main environments where they begin to acquire health-related behaviors. Objectives: To emphasize the importance of the implementation of the figure of the school nurse for the promotion and prevention of health in the educational environment. Methodology: A systematized literature review was carried out applying the Arskey and O'Malley model based on different databases (Pubmed, Dialnet, Scielo and Scopus), selecting studies from 2016-2023. Results: From the 1194 articles were obtained, 6 were chosen for the review. Likewise, it was possible to evidence the need for the implementation of the figure of the school nurse in educational centers, observing the benefits that this entails, both for children and families as well as teachers. Conclusions: School nursing implies an enormous support for schooling, being necessary for health education with the creation of healthy habits for the educational community, assuming the role of prevention and health promotion. Thus, the school nurse is a professional at the disposal of the society in formation which should be taken advantage of and manifested, giving it the visibility and the deserved importance so that it is recognized.
