Abstract

Esta obra pretende ser um contributo para o melhor conhecimento do estado de arte no estudo e debate sobre as questões da cidadania e da educação para a cidadania no mundo global, social, económica e politicamente interconectado. A preparação das gerações futuras para viverem de forma sustentável, pacífica e produtiva não é uma preocupação recente, sempre esteve presente nas práticas educativas e sempre esteve subjacente aos sistemas e projectos educativos. A cidadania é um elemento integrante das ideologias e políticas educativas. O que há de novo é o sentido de urgência com que esta preocupação surge actualmente. As considerações teóricas, estudos empíricos e projectos de intervenção aqui apresentados são um bom indicador da preocupação que o tema da cidadania global suscita na comunidade académica portuguesa, seguindo aliás uma tendência mundial contemporânea.
