Escolhas vocacionais: Primeiros dados dum estudo longitudinal

Abstract

O principal objectivo deste trabalho é estudar o modo como os jovens portugueses fazem as suas escolhas vocacionais. Para tal, procedeu-se a um estudo longitudinal, entre 1984/85 e 1990/91, utilizando duas coortes. Todos os jovens responderam, anualmente, a um questionário. Além disso, 100 jovens que frequentavam o 9.º ano de escolaridade ou que o frequentariam caso não tivessem abandonado os estudos, foram escolhidos para ser entrevistados. Este estudo pretende determinar os factores mais relevantes nas escolhas vocacionais que os jovens fazem e relacioná-las com o insucesso escolar. Considerando a escolha vocacional um processo que decorre ao longo do tempo, procurámos acompanhá-lo e, assim, compreender melhor os mecanismos em jogo e os pontos mais determinantes em termos de decisão. Nesta comunicação apresentaremos uma primeira análise dos resultados, tendo em conta os estudos quantitativos e qualitativos efectuados. Pensamos que a discussão alargada dos resultados obtidos poderá ser útil para todos os que trabalham no domínio da Psicologia Educacional e da Orientação Vocacional e que pretendem implementar uma colaboração mais eficiente entre a Psicologia e a Educação.
