Abstract

O Mural do Tempo - Manuais escolares em Portugal é uma narrativa etno-histórica sobre o livro escolar, que leva em atenção a historiografia, a constituição escrita do educacional escolar, o inventário, o olhar crítico, a cronologia, o significado, o sentido evolutivo. Argumentando em favor da tese de que o livro foi a base da cultura escolar, é feita uma resenha da história do manual escolar, no âmbito da cultura escrita, que enquadra o caso português no espaço europeu. Traça-se um quadro analítico e evolutivo, sustentando-se que a genealogia do livro e a regulamentação do manual estruturaram um regime de educabilidade. É apresentado um inventário crítico de manuais escolares portugueses, editados, aprovados e seleccionados principalmente para o Ensino Primário (Elementar e Complementar), que abrange o período do século XVI à primeira metade do século XX, com principal incidência entre o Pombalismo e o final do Estado Novo. Razão da razão escolar, o livro comporta a memória do passado e a memória do futuro, prevenindo e promovendo a mudança.
