O uso de manuais no ensino-aprendizagem de português na Guiné-Bissau

Abstract

This dissertation is based on the analysis of the use of manuals in the teaching and learning of Portuguese in Guinea-Bissau as a Non-Mother Tongue/Second Language, as well as on the application and the use of materials to teach non-native speaking students. Based on this analysis, we conclude that the materials being used in the teaching and learning of Portuguese language in Guinea Bissau are inadequate for the Guinean socio-educational context (multilingual/multiethnic culture). We also found that the qualification level of Portuguese teachers has been questioned, and, in addition, there is a lack of solid training for them to meet basic requirements. These factors contribute to students' failure at school. With this research, we intend to contribute to overcome this situation by drawing the attention of the educational authorities of our country about the inadequacy of Portuguese materials to the interesting learning, due to the multicultural and sociolinguistic diversities of the students. For this reason, we listened to the teachers, and analyzed their work, starting from the materials/manuals they use in the teaching of Portuguese. In this assessment, we conclude that the manuals produced by Foundation Faith and Cooperation (FEC) and AJALV (Abubacar, Júlio, Adramane, Luís and Vladimir), were prepared from the perspective of teaching a non-mother tongue, since the contents and images reflect the reality of students. However, the manuals that are used in public education and in most private schools in the country continue to be based on content for teaching Portuguese as a first language (traditional and structuralist). In this regard, it is urgent to create and adapt the manuals to the students' interests based on the sociocultural reality and ethnolinguistic multiculturalism of these people.

A presente dissertação baseia-se na análise do uso de manuais no ensino-aprendizagem de português na Guiné-Bissau, como Língua Não Materna/Língua Segunda (LNM/LS) e procura identificar aplicabilidade desses materiais para o ensino de português a alunos que são falantes não nativos desta língua. Com base nessa análise, chegamos à conclusão da inadequação dos referidos materiais ao contexto socioeducativo (multicultural, multilíngue e multiétnico) guineense. Também, comprovamos que o nível dos professores de português tem sido questionado, notando-se falta de formação sólida dos mesmos para corresponder às exigências. Esses fatores contribuem para o insucesso escolar dos alunos. Com esta pesquisa, pretendemos contribuir para chamar atenção às autoridades educativas do nosso país sobre a escassez e inadequação dos materiais de português, no interesse dos aprendentes, dificuldades relacionadas com a diversidade cultural e sociolinguísticas dos discentes. Por esse motivo, fomos a opinião dos professores relativamente ao seu trabalho, partindo dos materiais/manuais que aplicam no ensino de português. Em seguida, analisámos os manuais produzidos pela Fundação Fé e Cooperação – FEC – e os da AJALV (Abubacar, Júlio, Adramane, Luís e Vladimir), concluímos que foram elaborados na perspectiva do ensino de uma língua não materna e que, além disso, os conteúdos e as imagens espelham a realidade dos alunos. Todavia, os manuais que se usam no ensino público e na maioria escolas privadas do país continua a não ser mais do que uma listagem/programas de conteúdos do ensino de língua. A esse respeito, apontamos que é urgente criar e adequar os manuais ao interesse dos alunos, com base na realidade sociocultural e no multiculturalismo etnolinguístico do povo deste país.
