Abstract

The incidence of stroke in young adults has been increasing, with an increase of around 40% in recent decades. In this population, the identification of multiple etiological factors, quite often simultaneously, implies, according to the classic classifications, the overdiagnosis of cryptogenic stroke and a consequent increase in its incidence. Given its growing relevance, it is considered relevant to integrate the main causes of stroke in young people with a literature review, focusing on the particularities of etiological research, primary and secondary prevention, in light of the most recent data.
